Chris Sutton has questioned Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt‘s time in the gym leaving him sluggish on the pitch.
De Ligt joined from Bayern Munich in the summer and after starting four consecutive league games. The Dutchman was dropped from the bench for Sunday’s goalless draw at Aston Villa. Coming on at half-time for the injured Harry Maguire.
De Ligt was initially seen as a central defender, however, he has faced criticism. With Paul Scholes suggesting the Netherlands international is not an improvement on Maguire. Meanwhile, Sutton
believes the 25-year-old does too much weight training, telling the ufabet http://ufabet999.app Mail : “He’s spent too much time in the gym. “
I mean most people need to be in the gym. But when he was at Ajax and he was coming through he was not only strong, he was agile as well. But he looks a bit clumsy now.”
Dutch international De Ligt, signed for £43m from Bayern Munich in the summer. Has made nine appearances for United so far this season, including seven in the Premier League.
He appeared to be part of the first-choice pairing at the club alongside Martinez. Who moved to Old Trafford two years ago from Ten Hag’s former side, Ajax.
With Maguire out injured for two to three weeks, De Ligt is likely to return to the starting line-up when United host Brentford after the international break on October 19.
United currently sit 14th in the table with just eight points from seven games.
